Vog App Developers, Building More Than Just Apps

29 November 2018

Vog App Developers, located in Calgary, is a software development firm that provides businesses and entrepreneurs with high-quality custom applications for all platforms and modern devices.

Vibrant Communities Calgary was first introduced to Vog App Developers when they applied for REAP’s Empowering Employees Leader Award.

REAP stands for Respect for the Earth and All People. REAP is a not-for-profit association for locally owned businesses that care about the community and the environment.

REAP’s Annual Be Local Awards program is delivered in partnership with First Calgary Financial and recognizes excellence in our local economy by sharing the stories of the incredible work many companies and organizations are doing to support people and planet. Each year six leadership awards are presented.

The Empowering Employees Leader Award is presented by Vibrant Communities Calgary to a REAP member that is affecting meaningful and sustainable progress towards reducing poverty through employee-centred practices that build resilience. These may include but are not limited to paying a living wage, providing additional forms of compensation, financial literacy and employee wellness programs.

The decision to select an award recipient was no easy task and although Vog App Developers was not selected as the award-winning recipient in 2018, we applaud and recognize their efforts of doing business differently.

By paying a Living Wage, every person who joins their team can work with motivation, positivity and confidence without thinking about how they will be able to make their ends meet. They value their employees intellectual-based skills and strive to provide the very best for their clients. It is important that Vog’s employees are comfortable with meeting their everyday needs.

Flexibility and the ability to work from home or remotely are important HR practices Vog adopts, especially when working on software development. Compensation goes well beyond simply paying a salary.

Having a cool office space is also important, not only to attract talent but to have space where employees can get to know each other. Quality time and a healthy way of being are top of mind.

Paid team building events and parties are a big thing for Vog. Complimentary food and beverage at the office is the norm. Growth and promotion opportunities are a priority.

At Vibrant Communities Calgary, we often say that paying a Living Wage is a poverty reduction strategy. A company who invests in its employees and pays a Living Wage can prevent their staff from falling into poverty. We call this an upstream action, and it can go a long way.
